Mildred Miller (Reed) - Class Of 1942

Mildred Miller (Reed)

Mildred Marie Reed, 92, of Olney passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Burgin Manor in Olney.  Services at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home with burial at Haven Hill Memorial Garden, Olney.

Mildred was born May 15, 1924 in Richland County, the daughter of Charles and Audrey (Bostic) Miller. She married her childhood sweetheart, Connell Martin Reed, on September 10, 1942. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1976. She later married Carl Snider on January 30, 1983, who also preceded her in death on April 25, 2004.

Mildred worked as the office manager of Connell's Pure/Union Oil Distribution Bulk Plant Business. However, her most favorite job was being a proud homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She prided herself in making the house a neat, tidy, and loving home in which to raise her children. Friends were always welcome. All family recalls coming home to the smell of homemade cookies baking and supper cooking. Grandchildren looked forward to holiday meals and sharing fun times together with Grandma's traditions.

Mildred had a genuine smile for those she met, always putting others before herself, and truly living the Golden Rule. She was a wonderful Christian role model. Her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit will always be remembered by those she touched.

Mildred's most favorite pastimes included playing pinochle, drinking coffee, eating out with friends, playing Bingo at the Elks, dancing, and attending functions at the American Legion and VFW where Connell was Commander of both. She was a member of the Home Bureau, Ladies American Legion, and VFW Auxiliaries.

She is survived by her son, Martin Reed and wife Cheryl of Newburgh, IN; daughter, Marsha Rubsam and husband Tony of Effingham ; grandchildren, Scott (Nancy), Craig (Melissa) Reed, Brent Rubsam, Nikki Rubsam Kruger; Jason (Elizabeth), Eric, Michael Richardson; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Caleb, and Abby Reed, Lucas, Zachary, and Ashley Reed, Alexis and Kaylee Rubsam, Keaton and Aubree Kruger; Olivia, Cooper, and Sophie Richardson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, infant sister Charlene, and stepfather, Gleo C. Harms.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
