Eugene Arthur "Bud" Huchel, 84, Farmer City, passed away Monday Aug. 24, 2009 at Heritage Manor, Normal. A graveside memorial service at Greenleaf Cemetery, Farmer City with military rites.

Bud was born Aug. 25, 1924, at Parkersburg, Richland County, a son of Frederick and Aileen Nicholas Huchel. He married Helen O. Geary on Oct. 21, 1950, in Farmer City. She passed away March 15, 2003.

He is survived by two sons, Anthony (Cindy) Huchel, Carlock, and Joseph Huchel, Morgan Hill, Calif.; one daughter, Lynne (David) Oakes, Lake in the Hills; and three grandchildren, Ryan Oakes, Kristen Oakes and Jonathan Oakes.

He was preceded by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Bud graduated from Olney Township High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving three years in the South Pacific during World War II. Bud graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, with a degree in horology and operated the Time Service Bureau in Peoria for a number of years. He completed graduate work with a certificate from the New York Institute of Finance as a registered representative of the New York and American stock exchanges and retired in 1992 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Bud was a member of Joe Williams Post 55 American Legion, Farmer City; member of Fred G. O'Malley Post 6190 VFW, Farmer City; and a past member of the Farmer City Kiwanis Club. His hobbies were watch and clock repairs, engraving and bird watching.
