John Leroy Craig

John L. Craig, 72, of Calhoun, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 at his residence.  John was born on June 5, 1946 in Olney, IL, the son of Elmer and Opal (Ledeker) Craig.  He married Linda Totten on November 16, 1968 at the Olney Church of Christ and she survives.

John was a devoted Christian who preached at several different churches. He was also a lifelong farmer who enjoyed raising livestock. John served as mayor of Calhoun for three terms, sexton of the Calhoun and Richland Cemeteries, drove the school bus, and worked at Groff Equipment and Gray Farms. He served in the US Army from 1966-67. John had an outgoing personality and enjoyed being around people. He especially enjoyed time with family and friends. John was an excellent storyteller and could remember clear back to when he was a child in vivid detail. John will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

John is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda Craig of Calhoun; daughters, Janice Muhs and husband David of Olney, Paula Peavler and husband Mike of Olney;  and Heather Cantonwine and husband Robert of Greencastle, IN; son, John Mark Craig of Calhoun; grandchildren, Douglas, Craig, and Lauren Muhs, Maxwell and Anna Peavler, and Micah, Mikinley, and Maebrie Cantonwine; sister, Naomi Bullard of Hendersonville, NC; and cousins, nephews, and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Gary Paul Craig.

Memorials can be made to Calhoun Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney, with burial in Calhoun Cemetery with full Military Rites performed at the graveside.
