Galen N. Hughes

Galen N. Hughes, 62, of Morrison, formerly of Olney, died Monday June 27, 1994 at the C.G.H. Medical Center in Sterling.  Funeral services at the Morrison United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Lynn Longenbaugh officiating. Burial in the Fairmont Cemetery in Polo.

He was born October 17, 1931 in Noble, the son of Roy A. and Ruth (Parrott) Hughes. He married Shirley Ann Cox October 14, 1956 in Polo.

He worked 30 years at General Electric Company in Morrison and was later employed as a production manager at Ultrasonic Power in Freeport for two years and as a statistician at Rockwood State Park. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Morrison Dunlap Lodge #321 A.F.&A.M., where he was a past master, Tebela Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley, American Legion, VFW and served as an alderman on the Morrison City Council. He was a public address announcer for boys basketball games for 36 years and for football games for 26 years. He served in the U.S. Navy four years during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, of Morrison; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Gladys) Conwell of Sebring, Fla. and Ashland, Ohio and Mrs. Harlen (Arlene) McDaniel of Mesa, Ariz.; two brothers, Glenn Hughes and his wife, Lyla of Freeport and Keith Hughes and his wife, Josie of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; 19 nieces and nephews; a Goddaughter, Katherine Gregory and several special long-time friends.

Hughes was preceded in death by his parents.
