Michael Lee McWhirter Sr

Mr. Michael Lee McWhirter, Sr, age 77, of Collinsville, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was born December 24, 1941.

Mr. McWhirter served in the United States Navy, on the U.S.S. Everglades. Throughout the years, he owned Bestway Appliance Repair, worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he worked as the General Foreman, and was transferred to NAS Meridian due to the Charleston Shipyard closing, where he worked as an HVAC man, working his way up from the bottom to General Foreman in one year’s time.

Mr. McWhirter was the past Grand Master for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for the state of South Carolina. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie McWhirter; children, Kobi McWhirter, Michael L. McWhirter, Jr., and Nikolas McWhirter; grandsons, Parker Lee McWhirter, Noah Reed McWhirter, Kasey Reed McWhirter, and Bradley Reed McWhirter; sister, Barbara Shelton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Anita Brooks.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Meridian, Mississippi with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Robert Barham Funeral Home, Meridian, MS in charge of arrangements.
