Norman Andrew Kocher

Norman Andrew Kocher, 68, of Claremont, Illinois passed away at 9:35 a.m., Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend Father Robert Zwilling officiating. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Stringtown.

Norman was born October 29, 1941 in Richland County, Illinois, the son of Cornelius and Dorothy (Zwilling) Kocher. He married Laura Jean Bangert August 17, 1965.

Norman was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stringtown and held memberships in the Richland County Farm Bureau and the American Legion. He had been in the Army Reserve.

Norman is survived by his wife, Laura Jean Kocher of Claremont; daughter, Mona Kocher of Claremont; sons, Brian Kocher of Shiloh, Thomas "Tom" (Kathleen "Kathy") Kocher of Claremont and Gary Kocher of Claremont; brother James (Jane) Kocher of Olney, sister Mary Lou Ochs of Newton, brother Carl (Una) Kocher of Claremont, sister Marlene Steber of Claremont, sister Karen (Joseph) Weber of Canton, OH, sister Rita Kocher of Newton, brother Fred (Sharon) Kocher of Chatham, brother Richard (Anita) Kocher of Oblong, sister Virginia (John) Brooks of Savannah, GA and brother Luke (Trish) Kocher of F. tAtkinson, WI; three grandchildren, Seth, Brett & Kaitlin Kocher of Claremont and many nieces and nephews.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Sylvan Ochs and Herman Steber.

Carl Kocher (1959)

I remember Norman well in High School. He was a great guy. We shared two common character traits in school:  we were both very quiet people and we both hated PE.
