James Robert Scherer, 84 of Houston, TX passed away suddenly on February 11, 2018. Graveside services held at the Houston National Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Scherer was born on June 24, 1933, in Olney, IL. He was the son of Donald and Elise (Berry) Scherer. James was a graduate of East Richland High School. He married Shirley Murray in 1952 at the German Reform Church in Olney. She survives him.

James (Jim) entered the US Air Force in 1953, and served his country for four years during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Air Force he entered the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Jim spent most of his career in hospital administration in Decatur, IL. Jim was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ, VFW, Elks and the American Legion.

Jim is survived by his daughter Susan (Jack) Hutchison of Houston TX, and son Rob (Candy) Scherer of Clear Lake Shores, TX, grandchildren Lauren and Daniel Hutchinson of Austin, TX, Cole Scherer of Clear Lake Shores, TX, step grandchildren Jarred Clark and Jody Thomas of Houston, TX, sisters Shirley Holt and Pat VanCleve, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Elise (Berry) Scherer, sister Rosemary Sager and brother Donald Scherer.
