Olney, Ill.  --  During its monthly meeting Thursday, East Richland School District Board of Education unanimously approved holding a joint meeting next week with West Richland's board.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Sliva Auditorium at East Richland High School. The meeting will be open to the public and will feature a presentation by Dr. Nick Osborne, of Eastern Illinois University, who also conducted a feasibility study between the two districts two years ago.

Osborne will be speaking about annexation without a vote.

The boards will break up into small groups during the meeting to discuss annexation. A public forum will follow.

Superintendent Marilyn Holt said anyone from the public will be able to speak and will have two-three minutes to do so.

"It is important for people to understand that this is a meeting within a meeting. No action will be taken," said President Ben Anderson.

West Richland board member Steve Kinkade attended Thursday's meeting and said the joint meeting will give the Noble community a chance to have its questions answered.

Holt said comment cards will be available. She said Osborne will be there to help answer questions.

Board member Jeff Wilson said he feels that both boards need to be prepared to answer why annexation would be good for students and the districts, its pros and cons and its challenges.

(All votes are unanimous unless otherwise indicated. Board members include President Ben Anderson, Alex Cline, Steve Marrs, Leon Redman, Jan Ridgely, Pete Seals and Jeff Wilson.)?
